Adjectives Definition – Types of Adjective – English Grammar

Adjectives (विशेषण) – An adjective is a word which is used to add something to the meaning of noun or pronoun. (संज्ञा एवं सर्वनाम की विशेषता बतलाने वाले शब्दों को विशेषण कहते है |)

Example-

                Good girl.

                Some flowers.

 

Kinds of Adjective

विशेषण दस प्रकार के होते है-

1. Adjective of Quality

2. Adjective of Quantity

3. Adjective of Number

4. Demonstrative Adjective

5. Distributive Adjective

6. Interrogative Adjective

7. Possessive Adjective

8. Proper Adjective

9. Exclamatory Adjective

10. Emphasizing Adjective

 

1. Adjective of Quality (गुणवाचक विशेषण) – जो विशेषण किसी व्यक्ति या वस्तु के गुण, अवगुण, रंग अथवा दशा का वर्णन करते है, वे Adjective of Quality (गुणवाचक विशेषण) कहलाते है |

Example-

                She is a beautiful girl.

                He is an honest man.

 

2. Adjective of Quantity (परिमाणवाचक विशेषण) – जो विशेषण किसी वस्तु की मात्रा या तौल का बोध करते है वे Adjective of Quantity (परिमाणवाचक विशेषण) कहलाते है |

Example-

                Little knowledge is a dangerous thing.

                You have no sense.

 

3. Adjective of Number (संख्यावाचक विशेषण) – जो adjectives वस्तुओ या व्यक्तियों की संख्या प्रकट करते है, वे Adjective of Number (संख्यावाचक विशेषण) कहलाते है |

ये दो प्रकार के होते है-

                        a. Definite Adjective of Number

                        b. Indefinite Adjective of Number

 

a. Definite Adjective of Number – जो adjective निश्चित संख्या व्यक्त करते है Definite Adjective of Number कहलाते है |

Example-

                First, Second, One, Two, Half etc.

 

b. Indefinite Adjective of Number – जो adjective व्यक्तियों या वस्तुओ की अनिश्चित संख्या व्यक्त करते है Indefinite Adjective of Number कहलाते है |

Example-

                Many, all, few, some, any etc.

 

4. Demonstrative Adjective (संकेतवाचक विशेषण) – वे adjective जो किसी व्यक्ति या वस्तु की ओर संकेत करते है, Demonstrative Adjective (संकेतवाचक विशेषण) कहलाते है |

Example-

                That man is very honest.

                Don’t be in such a hurry.

 

 5. Distributive Adjective (विभागबोधक विशेषण) – वे adjectives जो Noun द्वारा व्यक्त किए गए व्यक्तियों या वस्तुओ में पृथक रूप से केवल एक ही ओर संकेत करते है, वे Distributive Adjective (विभागबोधक विशेषण) कहलाते है |

Example-

                Every boy should obey his teacher.

 

6. Interrogative Adjective (प्रश्नवाचक विशेषण) – जब what, which और whose का प्रयोग Noun के साथ प्रश्न पूछने के लिए किया जाता है, तो वे Interrogative Adjective (प्रश्नवाचक विशेषण) कहलाते है |

Example-

                What matter is under discussion?

                Whose book is this?

 

Note-

          जब what, which और whose का प्रयोग Noun के साथ नही होता तो वे Interrogative Pronouns होते है |

 

7. Possessive Adjective (अधिकारबोधक विशेषण) – जब my, our, your, his, her, their शब्दों के तुरंत बाद Noun का प्रयोग होता है, तो वे Possessive Adjective (अधिकारबोधक विशेषण) कहलाते है |

Example-

                Shivam is my brother.

                Deeksha is her sister.

 

8. Proper Adjective (व्यक्तिवाचक विशेषण) – जो Adjective proper noun से बनते है, वे Proper Adjective (व्यक्तिवाचक विशेषण) कहलाते है |

Example-

                Indian people love peace.

 

9. Exclamatory Adjective (विस्मयबोधक विशेषण) – जब what शब्द का प्रयोग adjective के रूप में किसी तीव्र भावना को प्रकट करने के लिए किया जाता है तो Exclamatory Adjective (विस्मयबोधक विशेषण) कहलाता है |

Example-

                What a mistake he made.

10. Emphasizing Adjective (प्रभावबोधक विशेषण) – जब own और very शब्दों का प्रयोग किसी व्यक्ति या वस्तु पर जोर डालने के लिए किया जाता है तो वे Emphasizing Adjective (प्रभावबोधक विशेषण) कहलाते है |

Example-

                My own hands done this.

                I am own master.
